Quilting Queen Saga Pt. 1

For those of you who truly know Whitney, you already know of her burning passion of charity and serving others. For those of you who don't know her, she finds joy and happiness in serving the Lord and everyone around her. That's why I wasn't completely shocked when Whitney came home with a paper bag full of poorly cut 5 inch felt squares to make a baby crib quilt for a humanitarian aid project.

This is the stack that didn't quite make the cut.

These squares looked and smelt like a winning combination of chaos and clutter. Picking out the squares to go together was like trying to find that illusive needle that someone always looses in the haystack. After sorting through all the pickins', Whitney took to sewing 4 squares together into a block.

Just keep sewing, sewing, sewing

It's a good thing you don't have to have insurance to sew. Her premium would be ridiculous with her speeding addiction! She puts that sewing pedal to the ground. She does look quite cute behind the wheel...

Completely captivated by lining up her seams

Whit was such a champ and busted out this quilt top in about 3.5 hours. It began as a little girl quilt, and when the pickins' became slim it turned into a crazy quilt.

This is Whitney inspecting every single intersecting seam for accuracy...

You probably saw the post title about this being a saga. Well the quilt now moves on. Whitney had to submit the finished size to receive her batting and backing. Then it will be turned over to a group of young women to be tied. After that, she will get it back to bind the outer edges before sending it away to help some baby somewhere in the world.

I'm so proud of my beautiful wife and her willingness to serve.

How rewarding it would be to see the little baby that is wrapped in this quilt, or to see the joy in a toddler's eyes when they run around dragging this everywhere they go. What an experience to serve and help others, even through small means, just as our Savior did.

The pure joy of accomplishment!

Oh my! I think it is almost as beautiful as the woman standing behind it! Wow, you make that quilting stuff look so easy! That has been my problem all along, I just need to sew faster! Instead I am afraid to get after it and just let the fabric sit and gather dust. I need you here to motivate me!! I love you girl and as always so proud of your accomplishments. mom

PS nice photos Jordan
